TomTom Go 740 Live

January 9, 2009

TomTom Go 740TomTom announced at CES their new Go 740 Live GPS, which is their first to have a built-in cellular connection, used to update traffic, weather and other live information.

Before the 740, you had to use your phone’s data connection via Bluetooth. The GO 740 Live has this service built-in, free for a year. The unit also updates map corrections.

Besides “Lane-Guidance” the GO 740 also uses “IQ Routes” to calculate arrival times, based on time of day and weekend vs weekday traffic patterns, gathered from other TomTom users.

According to TomTom the GO 740 uses the GPRS network, and here in the US, that will be provided by AT&T.
